For 25+ years, we’ve walked with Honduran families.
Sandy Shultz, a Skidmore University nursing graduate, has dedicated her life to helping others. After successful careers in nursing and real estate, she joined the Peace Corps and served as a health volunteer in Honduras from 1998 to 2000. There, she discovered her passion for providing medical care to children in underserved rural areas.
Each year, Sandy spends three months in Honduras, helping children with conditions like clubfoot, cleft lip, and cleft palate access life-changing surgeries. She covers the costs for transportation, housing, medical care, and post-surgical needs for both the child and a parent. In some cases, she also coordinates care in the U.S. for children requiring more complex surgeries.
Sandy’s tireless efforts have transformed the lives of countless children—and their families—through simple, compassionate intervention.
Maribel / María Isabel García García, a board member, is a devoted mother and grandmother who has been a steadfast supporter of the organization since its inception. For many years, she has graciously hosted Sandy and provided a warm, welcoming environment that reflects the heart of our mission in Honduras. Maribel’s commitment and hospitality continue to play a vital role in our work.
Cristóbal / José Cristóbal Nelson Duron provides steady and reliable support, often assisting with transportation for Sandy and our volunteers. His quiet dedication has been a consistent and invaluable part of our daily operations.
Francia / Francia Maribel Nelson García, a board member and daughter of Maribel and Cristóbal, is recognized for her strong problem-solving skills and proactive approach. Whether coordinating logistics, organizing local initiatives, or stepping in to support wherever needed, Francia consistently seeks meaningful ways to contribute to the organization’s success.
Julieth / Isabella Julieth Zelaya Nelson, a board member and Sandy’s goddaughter, is a dedicated and enthusiastic young volunteer. As a straight-A senior in high school, she brings energy, insight, and a fresh perspective to the team. Julieth manages our social media platforms and newsletters with creativity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
